Ahead of the 2019/20 season Enyimba raided the NPFL for the best players, to bolster the squad, as they prepared for a three thronged campaign in the NPFL, Aiteo Cup and importantly the CAF Champions League.
One of the marquee signings identified by Head Coach Usman Abd’Allah was Sunshine Star Midfielder Dayo Ojo.
Having spent a decade in his two spells at the Akure-based club Ojo opted not to renew his contract with Sunshine, to pursue other opportunities and Enyimba offered him an outlet.
The midfielder has earned five international cap for Nigeria and is one of the most enterprising holding midfielders in the NPFL.
An asset lost for Sunshine, but one gained for Enyimba, Ojo told www.brila.net that the decision to leave Akure was not as easy as it seemed.
“Very difficult decision, but is good to face challenges elsewhere,” Ojo said.
Over the weekend, he helped the 8 times Nigerian champions secure a 2-0 win in the first-leg playoff of the CAF Confederation Cup against TS Galaxy.
A whilst he feels no pressure in his new environment, the Midfielder admits he needs to win over the fans with his performance on the pitch like he did with the Akure support base.
“Yea of course, when I was in Sunshine, when the opportunity comes for me to play, I make sure I give my best, that’s why am here today.”
