Former National U17 Men’s head coach Manu Garba believes the tactical problem coaches face with players in the NPFL is due to proper football education.
Garba, who guided Nigeria to the 2013 FIFA World Cup triumph, told FL that high level of illiteracy in the Nigerian league is one reason the league has struggled in recent times.
‘If the players had formal education it will be easier for coaches to teach them tactically, as the exposure that comes with education will aid the players ability to understand tactical instructions and execute them better,’ Manu Garba explained.
Garba argues that tactics and footballing understanding isn’t something that can be taught in the four walls of a class room, but on the field of play.
“Even though I strongly advocate the place of education in our football, I believe a player’s improvement and footballing understanding is down to coaching than formal education.”
