Ighalo wins AFCON Top Scorer Award

Odion Jude Ighalo finished as the AFCON 2019 highest goal scorer with five goals.

Ighalo opened his goalscoring account in Nigeria’s first game against Burundi in the group stage.

 

He would go ahead to score two against Cameroon in the round of 16, and a goal each against Algeria and Tunisia in the Semi final and Third place match respectively.

 

Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez and Adam Ounas, as well as Senegal’s Sadio Mane, Congo’s Cedric Bakambu were the closest to the former Watford man, with three goals each.

 

Ighalo becomes the sixth Nigeria to win the prize after Segun Odegbami, Rasheed Yekini, Julius Aghahowa, Jay-Jay Okocha and Emmanuel Emenike.
