Changchun Yatai of China striker, Odion Jude Ighalo has promised to give his best effort yet with the Super Eagles in Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.
Ighalo, who has been pilloried of recent for blunt outings and lack of goals scoring form with the national team, acknowledged it is a crucial game that Nigeria must win, and pledged to help the Eagles snatch the much-desired home victory.
However, the former Watford of England star added that he will need unflinching support from the fans and lots of luck for him to make hay at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
While offering to give his best effort during the game, Ighalo stressed that he would not be able to make any mark on his own, except he gets enough backing from the fans in the stands and adequate support from his teammates on the pitch.
Ighalo, though, said he is sure the Eagles will beat Libya on Saturday, and stressed that it is a task that the Nigerian players must accomplish.
He added: “We want to play at the AFCON next year and to do that, beating Libya is a task we must accomplish successful.
“Getting the win is all that matters to us as a team. Scoring is my primary responsibility as the top striker of the team, but it’s not a burden too heavy for me to carry.
“I will certainly do my best and hopefully the goals will come. I’m not under pressure to score against Libya but I will give my best.”
