Playmaker, Ibrahim Olawoyin scored his first Premier league goal in Nigeria’s top flight as his 80th minute strike returned Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Yobe Desert Stars at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
The youngster, who joined Abia Warriors from sister club Abia Comets this season, kept Yobe Desert Stars defenders busy for the entire duration of the game and capped his efforts by netting the only goal when he combined with substitute, Nwuju Stanley to make the difference.
Before the goal came, the home fans were on the edges of their seats with their hearts in their mouths but the goal calmed their nerves.
Atilola Abdulsalami Tunde, who debuted for the Warriors this season, should have made it 2-0 shortly after but his effort was wrongly directed.
Abia Warriors Manager, Henry Makinwa in a post match press conference, expressed gratitude to God for the hard-fought victory, adding that the jinx of struggling at home has been broken.
Abia Warriors will next face Delta Force in Asaba this weekend.
