Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has revealed that he started his football career as a goalkeeper.

Osimhen started his career in Lagos, where he was selected for Nigeria’s team to the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2015, and it was there he announced himself to the world when he finished the tournament as the top scorer.

Speaking on his journey before he ever caught the eyes of the National team Coaches, Osimhen said he played in multiple positions in his academy days.

“I was actually a defender, in fact I started off as a goalkeeper for the youth team,” the 24 year-old recounts.

“So, there was a time when they took me to play in a little tournament, it was a semi-final game, and I actually caught two penalties. I was actually a goalkeeper, then a defender before I became a striker.”

This would come as a rather surprising turn of events for the youngster, who is unarguably among the best strikers in the world currently.

He is leading Napoli’s charge to the Scudetto this season and in their campaign for the Champions League title.
