Nigeria’s home base Super Eagles have failed to qualify for next year’s African Nations Championship after despite beating Sparrows of Togo 2-0 to Nigeria on Saturday.
The Imama Amapakabo tutored team went down 4-1 in the first leg played in Lome, two weeks ago and needed at least three goals to seal qualifications to the Championship.
Lobi Stars Sikiru Alimi scored two goals in Agege township stadium to reduced the deficit to 3-4 on aggregate.
The former Sunshine Stars of Akure forward opened the scoring after seventh minutes, before adding the second in the 71st minutes of the encounter.
However the team failed to find the all important winning goal , as Togo who had no short on target on the night sealed passage into the tournament for the first time in their history.
