In just two seasons Royal Antwerp FC are reliving the most remarkable time in their history following Wednesday epic UEFA Champions League play-off victory against AEK Athens to confirm their progress to the group stages of the competition.

A 2-1 win in the AEK Stadium saw Antwerp complete a double and a comfortable 3-1 aggregate victory over the Greeks side.

The Belgian champions won a domestic double last season and kicked off the current campaign with the Super Cup victory all under the guidance of former Barcelona dutch midfielder, Marc van Bommel.

van Bommel has kept the core of his squad from last season which includes Nigeria’s Alhassan Yusuf.

Yusuf came off the bench in Wednesday’s game late in the second half for his first appearance in the qualifiers.

So far this season he has made five appearances in all competitions for the Reds, as he slowly works his way back to team following a disruptive injury layoff to his progress in Belgium.

On the night, the 23 year-old shared the bench with summer signing Chidera Ejuke, who joined from CSKA Moscow on loan for the season.
