Higuain: Nigerian fans react to Chelsea signing veteran Argentine striker

Date:

A cross section of Chelsea fans in Nigeria have celebrated the signing of veteran goal poacher Gonzalo Higuain on loan from AC Milan till the end of the season to help shore up the team’s goal scoring problems.

The highly rated Argentine who completed his medical with the London blues will be able to fully join Chelsea in the summer for the sum of 32 million pounds subject to his performance during his loan spell.

Chelsea have been faced with striking problems with strikers Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud failing to score sizeable number of goals to help the Blues challenge for titles in the English Premier League. Higuain’s deal became possible after Morata triggered a clause in his deal where he asked to leave the club and join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

Higuain has been handed the Chelsea’s No 9 jersey. The former Real Madrid, Napoli, Juventus and AC Milan star has scored a total of 237 league goals in 413 league appearances across Argentina and Europe.

Nigerian football fans on social media took time out to welcome the star. @Obat7864 wrote; “Good luck man, this is another big step in your journey of football; I wish you all the best, up Chelsea.”

@paddyf83; “One thing is for sure, the Chelsea parties will be epic once he gets his supply chain set up and the shipments started!

@carefreelewisG tweeted; “Hopefully now Higuain has signed we never see Eden Hazard in a false 9 again. The fans hate hit, he hates it, let’s go back to playing him where he is at his best.”

Despite overwhelming acceptance from fans, some are not happy with Maurizio Sarri for failing to keep faith Morata. @Niyinficient on twitter wrote; “Alvaro Morata has scored more goals than @G_Higuain this season. Instead of the former to get the confidence and support of the coach, he is being loaned off! I hope @ChelseaFC won’t regret this as usual”

@Akinadejon said; “I pray it is worth it at the end of the day because the midfield has to be up and doing they have to be more creative for him to succeed.”

@ayovictor94 is less optimistic of Higuain’s chances of succeeding in the EPL. “He will flop there; @ChelseaFC should have swallowed their pride and brought back Costa, since Conte has been sacked. I am just feeling, Higuain is not the solution to your striking problems at Chelsea, but what do I know..?I wish him all the best.”

Higuain is one of Europe’s most potent strikers having scored a total of 237 league goals in 413 league appearances across Argentina and Europe.
