Empoli climbed out of the relegation zone after a shock 1-0 victory against Champions, Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday.

The hero on the day was Empoli’s goalkeeper, Etrit Berisha who made several outstanding saves to keep out the Napoli attackers.

Berisha would eventually share the spotlight with substitutes, Tyronne Ebuehi and Viktor Kovalenko who combined to deal the deathblow to Rudi Garcia’s side.

Ebuehi and Kovalenko were introduced eight minutes apart from the 63rd minute, with the scoreline still goalless.

The Nigerian RB created space down towards the corner flag before sending a cutback cross to the fellow substitute who finished with aplomb for a late winner in stoppage time.

It was only the third victory for Empoli this season in the Serie A and their first win on the road against the Azzurri since 2021.
