Salernitana boss Davide Nicola threw William Troost-Ekong straight into the mix, as the CB made his debut for the Serie A days after announcing his departure from Watford.

Ekong was on the pitch for the entire duration as Salernitana battled their way to further securing a topflight status for next season.

On Friday night, making his return to Italian Serie A, the 29 year-old showed an impressive performance to help the side secure maximum points on the road against Lecce.

He filled the stats sheet with 5 tackles, 1 interception, 2 clearances, 2 blocks and 2 aerial duels won.

Meanwhile, Boulaye Dia (5′) and Tonny Vilhena (20′) put the visitors in the driver’s seat early in the game and from that point they controlled proceedings.

Even after conceding through Gabriel Strefezza (23′), Salernitana held on for their first league win since October, a run of seven games without a victory.

The win also moved them to 14th place; leapfrogging Lecce by a spot, and have picked up 21points from 20 round of games.
