Wikki Tourists’ Issa Gata has warned Niger Tornadoes it would be foolish to think Sunday’s Northern derby will be a walk in the park.
The desperate Ikon Allah Boys are favourites for the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) week 15 game at the Bako Kontagora Stadium but the Flying Eagles forward said these are the sorts of games he and his teammates live for.
“This year, if we want to move forward, we have to win. That’s all we have in our heads right now, to play a near-perfect game because that is what our rival will demand of us for,” Gata told Footballlive.ng.
“We are in great shape and we’re up for it. We must not have any negative thoughts or doubts – such thinking must not exist.
“These are the games that football players like to play in because of everything that they mean and everything that surrounds them.
“We are in the final straight of the season and errors can cost you dearly.
“From now on absolutely everything is vital. To stay in the running for the
play offs is reason enough to be completely focused on the game this Sunday.
“We have to have confidence.
“This team has earned the right to be believed in. We sometimes have the odd bad game, as everybody does. Nobody can think that we’ll be a walk in the park for them.”
