Frankly, Will Ndidi and Onyeka Deliver for Nigeria against Guinea-Bissau or Is Peseiro Just Lazy?

Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka have both been handed invitations for Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau.

Peseiro’s 23-man squad was announced, Thursday, by the Nigeria Football Federation and it was quite baffling.

Ndidi, who is first team regular at Leicester City until recently, has made 17 league appearances this season, but mostly due to injuries hindering his progress.

On the other hand, Frank Onyeka has made only 16appearances in all competitions this current campaign and he also only recently returned from a lengthy injury that kept him out between December and February, missing 8games in the process.

While Onyeka has been involved in Brentford’s last two PL games, Ndidi has made bit part contributions in a difficult season for the team.

Both aren’t fully fit and will have only a few days to hit competitive game-form to execute back to back matches on the Continent.

It’s not implausible to get either player in shape, but, the demands of their roles – in the heart of the midfield – could expose their lack of game time particularly this close to the qualifier or leave the team heavily shorthanded if injury hits.

From being Nigeria’s first choice midfield general, and the understudy Peseiro has no other reinforcement, who is a natural Defensive Midfielder.
