Fortune smiles on Onyedika ahead of Club Brugge UCL night

Club Brugge will kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign with a home game at the Jan Breydel Stadion against Bayer Leverkusen and Raphael Onyedika could get the nod for his first start.

Onyedika got his debut for Club, coming off the bench to replace Angola midfielder Clinton Mata in the first half of the Jupiler League debut against Cercle Brugge at the weekend.

The young midfielder left a good impression on coach, Carl Hoefkens and earned high praise after the 4-0 victory.

However, Hoefkens worried for the injured vet ahead of Wednesday’s game and had given an assessment, that hinted there would be consideration to start Onyedika.

“Clinton is a player who always keeps going, but it was clear that his injury was serious,” Hoefkens said after Friday’s win.

” For now it’s too early to draw any conclusions. I hope to recover him for Wednesday’s game, but that’s unclear at the moment.

“As for Onyedika, I can only say that I’m happy with his performance. He was able to show today what we had seen before when we scouted him.”

Unfortunately, the recent update on Mata’s injury is that he will miss Wednesday’s game.
