Flying Eagles May Miss Alhassan Against Mauritania

Date:

Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles may be without the services of Kano Pillars midfielder, Ibrahim Alhassan for next week’s African U-20 Nations Cup qualifier away to Mauritania, as the youngster is still nursing an ankle injury.

Alhassan did not feature in the team’s latest test match against Citizens FC of Abuja on Tuesday, which the Flying Eagles won 1-0, and may not make the flight to Mauritania with the squad on Tuesday.

Coach of the side, Paul igbogun, is however, staying upbeat ahead of the first leg of their final qualification match for a place at next year’s U20 AFCON in Niger Republic.

The match is slated for next Friday, July 13, with the return leg a week later in Nigeria, from which the overall winners will advance to Niger 2019.

The Flying Eagles, who sent Guinea Bissau packing in the previous rounds of the qualifiers, failed to qualify for last year’s tournament in Zambia after they were beaten by Sudan.

With that in mind, Aigbogun’s lads must be wary of their opponents, as Mauritania are the giant killers of the qualifying, having earlier eliminated Morocco and Guinea.
