FIFA WCQ: We won’t underrate Liberia like we did against Sierra Leone – Rohr

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr insists there is believe among the team that they’ll get a win against ‘the well prepared’ Liberia, but warns that they can’t underrate the Lone Stars like they did Sierra Leone in Benin City.

Nigeria hosts Liberia on September 3 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in the second round opening group C match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Rohr is confident home advantage and the sharpness of the team in their practice sessions will help Nigeria get off on a good note in the qualifiers.
Speaking with FL after the team’s second training session on Tuesday, the Coach said, “We are happy to be playing now for the world cup, it is the finest competition in the world for football and all the sports. We want to go there and it starts with the game at home against Liberia.
“We’re playing in Lagos, we’re at home we are ready I’m still missing a few players who we expect to arrive soon because they’ve been concerned about their transfer situations at their clubs.”
“It was a good training session, I think the players are hungry they want to win this match, we know that Liberia had a good preparation. They have George Weah who did everything to have a good team and we know it will not be easy. But I think with the shape of our players what I saw in the training sessions we can trust in our team.
“We have to be careful we never underrate anybody we don’t forget what happened in Benin City a few months ago. We must take this opponent very seriously. We’ll prepare very well; we have more training sessions, and then we’ll be ready.
“If the conditions are right; not too hot, fresh wind, fresh air and good pitch, we’ll play very good football.”
