Nigeria closed the group stage campaign at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup with a big win against Canada early Thursday Morning at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto.
The Falconets fought back from a goal down after a goalkeeping howler as early as the second minute of the game.
Nigeria was awarded two penalties, first for a hand ball and the second for a dangerous play.
Both goals (24′, 32′) were tucked away by Esther Onyenezide, who dispatched her kicks with ease and good technique.
After turning the game around in the first-half, the Falconets controlled the flow of play in the second stanza, but didn’t seal their win until very late.
Chioma Olise hit home from close range, connecting a perfect low cross inside the box.
It was a goal that came in the first minute of stoppage time in the second half and it concluded proceedings on the day.
The team thus complete a sweep following wins over France (1-0) and Korea Republic (1-0) in the previous group games.
All group games have been concluded and the quarter-final brackets set and Nigeria will battle Netherlands on Sunday at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto.
