After leading his team to a Round of 16 exit at the FIFA U20 World Cup, Argentina U20 Coach, Javier Mascherano submitted his letter of resignation to the Argentina Football Association (AFA).

Two second-half goals from Ibrahim Mohammed and Rilwanu Haliru Sarki secured Nigeria’s progress to the Quarter final in a 2-0 victory, depressing the night and shocking the loud home crowd who had arrived in great numbers to support their national team.

Ladan Bosso’s boys, though, will enter the next round with confidence since they were more adept at scoring goals and more difficult to stop than their rivals.

In response to inquiries after the game, Mascherano informed the Buenos Aires Times that he had submitted his letter of resignation to the Argentina Football Association Leadership.

However, he hopes to continue in his role as Los Cebollitas coach.

“I have a great relationship with AFA President, Claudio Tapia, and I will continue until he doesn’t want me.

“He has my resignation letter on his desk but my idea is to continue because, I feel I am good enough for this role and as long as they believe the same I will be here.”

Recall that Javier Mascherano was under pressure of being sacked after Argentina initially failed to qualify for the tournament before they were granted the hosting rights after Indonesia were stripped of the hosting rights owing to the political stand off with Israel.
