Flying Eagles captain, Daniel Bameyi has taken more positives from the team’s 2-1 win over Dominican Republic on Sunday in the FIFA U20 World Cup.

The Flying Eagles went behind first in the game after they conceded a penalty which was put away by the Dominican Republic captain, Edison Azcona in the 23rd minute of the match.

But Nigeria restored parity within eight minutes courtesy of Guillermo de Pena’s own goal and then were gifted a winning goal with a poor back pass which Samson Lawal put away in the 70th minute.

Ladan Bosso’s team were particularly criticized for their lack of teamwork which saw many chances go begging.

The biggest culprit was Jude Sunday who seemed to be the liveliest of the front three, but made poor decisions when it mattered the most.

One of the instances included when he interfered in play while he was offside, trying to contend for the ball to score against two other attackers in green.

However, the captain of the side, Yumyum FC’s Daniel Bameyi believes the team has a chance to win more games; including Italy and Brazil.

“The next opponents defeated Brazil and we had the opportunity to watch their first half.

“Any team that can defeat Brazil, you know it’s not going to be an easy one.

“But, as you know, we are Nigerians, we’re not scared of anybody and we know every team is beatable, no matter how you play.”

The Flying Eagles will play Italy on Wednesday in a fight to take the lead in the group and seal qualification into the next stage of the tournament.
