Nigeria’s U17 boy’s Head Coach Manu Garba says all 33 players, currently, in Brazil have “ample” chance of making the final cut, but admits they already have some “in mind”.
Garba will name his final 21 players for the FIFA World Cup later this week (Wednesday 16th), but the Coach disclosed he will assess his team’s readiness with the friendly games line up.
On Tuesday, the Eaglets will play their first tune up game in Brazil against Sao Paulo’s Youth squad; a game the Coach says will also give an “insight of who makes the team”.
“Almost everybody has ample chance to make the 21-man list which will be submitted on the 16th of this month,” Garba told thenff.com.
“Tomorrow’s match against one of the greatest team in Brazil, Sao Paulo, will give an insight of who and who will make the team, because even as we’re playing the friendly matches we’re still seeing each player.
“Like I said earlier, every player has ample chance of playing in the team, but we want to make sure that we take players that are injury free; players that are good enough to give us what we want at the World Cup level.
“This might not be the only friendly match, on the 16th which is the tentative date we’re submitting the list, we shall playing South Korea; this is another chance for other players to showcase what they can do.
“But most importantly before that 16 we should be able to know who and who we have in mind to make the 21-man list, but most importantly too this friendly matches will give us an avenue to assess the level of preparation so far; to see areas we need to address before the world cup proper.”
