Daniel Akpeyi starred as Kaizer Chiefs defeated Black Leopards 1-0 on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in the South African Premier League.
Akpeyi replaced Bruce Bvuma who hurt himself in the warm-up and played the entire duration of the game.
Erick Mathoho was the hero as Kaizer Chiefs maintained their winning start to the Absa Premiership season with his solitary effort, but Chiefs have Akpeyi to thank for a decent outing.
Leopards midfielder Tshwarelo Bereng was played through down the left-hand side in the 27th minute, but the experienced Akpeyi came off his line and Bereng missed the target from an acute angle.
The Nigeria International also had to come to his team’s rescue, parrying some long range efforts to keep their one hundred percent record intact.
Akpeyi was on the bench in Amakhosi’s league opener against Highlander Park, which they won 3-2.
