Alex Iwobi returned to action for Everton in the Premier League after the injury scare in the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford last week.

Iwobi played all 90minutes at Goodison Park on Saturday when Everton welcomed fellow strugglers Southampton in the relegation scrap.

However, the Nigerian midfielder couldn’t help his side avoid a crushing 2-1 defeat, which saw them drop into the relegation zone.

The defeat further complicates the future of Toffees manager, Frank Lampard, who has been under pressure from fans amidst reports his time at the club was almost up.

Everton fell to a James Ward-Prowse double scored in the second half as the Saints fought from behind after conceding 39th minute strike from Andre Onana.

The victory was Southampton’s first in the league (5 games) since the appointment of Nathan Jones and the Club’s first since last October.

Jones left Joe Aribo on the bench for the game.
