Super Eagles Midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo and Goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi have attributed the Super Eagles’ historic comeback against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to the never say die attitude of the Nigerian fans at the Alexandria Stadium, as well as the tactics deployed by Gernot Rohr.
The Rio 2016 Olympic Bronze medalists said the half time talks from the technical crew as well as the Vociferous Nigerian fans saw them outshine the defending champions.
Stephane Bahoken and Clinton N’Jie late in the second half had cancelled out Odion Ighalo’s opener in the 19th minute.
The Super Eagles however overturned the first-half deficit with strikes from Ighalo and Alex Iwobi in the space of six minutes.
Etebo, on his part said the support they got from the fans spurred them to intensify efforts to win the match.
He said, “Knowing that we have the fans, and their support behind us actually motivated us to continue to play well. I must give kudos to them for standing by us all through.”
The Stoke City Midfielder added that “We were not ready to return home, so we needed to fight and thankfully, our fight paid off”.
Daniel Akpeyi Meanwhile lauded Gernot Rohr’s substitutions and the team’s set up.
“We had a plan going into the game, we worked it out, and the substitutions complemented our efforts.”
The Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper however stressed that they are ready for their next game against South Africa.
