Emeka Eze may have earned himself cult hero status at Istanbulspor AS as his late goal helped the team grab a point in a Turkish Super Lig derby game against Fenerbahçe on Monday night.

Eze, who is on loan from lower division side Eyupsor, had previously scored a single goal in his 10 appearances from the struggling Istanbulspor.

However, the 26 year-old was unfazed by the occasion and pressure from the very loud home crowd at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, as he snuck past his marker to send a power diving header past the goalkeeper in the dying embers of stoppage time.

Overwhelming favorites in the encounter, Fenerbahçe controlled the game from the blast of the whistle and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 25th minute.

Arda Guler, an unusual goalscorer but one for the future, the 18 year-old Yellow Canaries prodigy -in his second senior season – found the back of the net to equal his season’s goal tally with the strike.

In the 51st minute he popped up again and doubled for the hosts as they cruised on all the stats board.

However, the modest Istanbulspor AS showed guile and some doggedness, earning themselves a penalty to halve the deficit.

Valon Ethemi converted in the 57th minute, but wasn’t done yet and in the 66th minute, against all odds, the visitors were level, a brace from Ethemi.

As though pacing their opponents, Fenerbahçe were back ahead and the nature of it must have left the goalkeeper red faced even for a moment.

A mesmerizing run in the box left the goalie at the mercy of Joao Pedro and the midfielder needed no permission to dazzle as he rounded his marker and the goalie to finish quite exquisitely in the 76th minute.

It all seemed like game done, points in the bag for Fenerbahçe, but the Fourth official showed nine minutes of stoppage time, to the dismay of the home.crowd.

Whistles started ringing out from the stands, like the fans could sense the danger looming.

Istanbulspor AS won a throw in deep in the opponent’s half, a brave play and cross followed l, no one anticipated Eze, but the poacher’s instinct and resilience of the Striker to dare sent his teammates into a frenzy.

A call for VAR to check for possible offside rule the goal was legit and the loanee who had toiled all night celebrated his second league goal of the season and a point in a difficult ground against the title chasing Fener.

However, for Istanbulspor AS it’s one more point in their bid to stay up. They’ve now garnered 29 points from the same number of games, with five rounds of matches left – after Hatayspor and Gaziantep pulled out of the season due to the devastating Earthquakes that hit their regions in February.
