Shkupi have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League following a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the second-leg of the second qualifying round.

Dinamo Zagreb won the tie 3-2 on aggregate putting an end the Macedonian Champions’ first foray into the big leagues.

Shkupi got their campaign underway with a first ever win in the competition, beating Lincoln Red Imps 3-0 in the first-leg, first qualifying round.

Sunday Adetunji was among the goalscorers at the Toše Proeski Arena, where only 2,500 fans made it to the stadium.

However, Adetunji would go on to miss his scoring boots in the subsequent games – none of which the team will eventually win.

On Wednesday, 12,500 fans were in attendance with the home crowd hoping after the 2-2 result away from home, the Pëllumbat could find inspiration and snatch a famous win.

But, the fairy tale story was not to be and a single Arijan Aremi strike in the 47th minute decided the game.

Following the outcome of their UCL elimination, Nigeria’s Sunday Adetunji and his teammates will now turn their attention to the Europa League fixture, where they face Shamrock Rovers in the third qualifying round.
