Egyptian RB Akram Tawfik will no longer take part in the Africa Cup of Nations following the injury he sustained during the opening group D game against Nigeria.

Akram, 24, tore his ACL during a challenge against Nigeria’s Moses Simon and was substituted shortly after he was stretched off.
The Egypt FA confirmed the Akram’s exit from the tournament in their press statement which read in part:
Akram Tawfik’s tournament has ended as the player is suffering a long-term injury, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
Several of his teammates have shown support for the young player through social media messages and he even got one from the Super Eagles winger Simon.
In a social media post on the Super Eagles official IG page, Moses Simon wished the Egyptian quick recovery.
“I just want to wish the Egyptian player, Akram Tawfik all the best, I wish you quick recovery. Please be strong, okay, cheers.”
Meanwhile, the 7 times winners will return to action at the weekend. The Pharaohs are scheduled to face Guinea Bissau on Saturday at the Roumde Adjia Stadium.
