The draw for the EFL Cup has been held and the Nigerian contingent; Joe Aribo, Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis, in the competition have been handed semi-final testy fixtures.
On Wednesday, following the conclusion of the quarter-final matches which included a major cup upset between Southampton and Manchester City, the SF draw result was published.
Nottingham Forest beat Wolves 4-3 on penalties after settling for 1-1 in regular time. Awoniyi was absent from the match day squad, but Dennis came off the bench in the second half.
On their part, the Saints humbled Pep Guardiola’s side 2-0, but Aribo was an unused substitute.
In the semi-final, Nottingham Forest take on Manchester United, while Southampton were paired with Newcastle United.
The first legs of the Cup semi-final will hold in the week commencing January 23, while the second legs are scheduled for a week later.
Southampton and Newcastle United are the only semi-finalists at this year’s competition who have never won it.
