HJK Helsinki of Finland’s coach, Mika Lehkosuo has expressed a high level of satisfaction with how the club’s new signing, Elderson Uwa Echiejile has been able to settle down pretty quickly with the team.
Footballlive.ng reports that Lehkosuo is happy to see the 31-year-old mix seamlessly with his new teammate, just few days after signing a nine-month contract until end of the Finnish top division season.
The coach, though, admitted Echiejile needs extra training in order to hit the ground running at the start of the new season next month as he says the left-back, who has an option to extend for another year, is rusty.
He, however, pointed out that it is so simply because Echiejile has been without a club since leaving French Ligue 1 side, AS Monaco in July last year, and should be back in top form after training with the squad.
The left-back, who made over 50 appearances for Monaco, with which he won the 2016-17 French league title, had earlier played 105 matches for Sporting Braga of Portugal, where he scored eight goals.
Echiejile, fondly called ‘Elderson’ at his previous bases, which include Stade Rennes of France, Sivasspor of Turkey, as well as Standard Liege and Cercle Brugge of Belgium, also got 59 international caps with the Super Eagles, after making his debut nine years ago.
Lehkosuo said those statistics add to convince him to expect much from Echiejile, who also scored in helping Nigeria win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa and was at two editions of the FIFA World Cup.
He added: ”Elderson is an experienced player. He is also good in the aerial game, so we get added value to our special situations.
Training sessions are now important to Elderson, because he is lacking game time.
“We have enough time to get him fit for the beginning of the season. He immediately adapted to the team and got along well with the others.”
