Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets begin their quest to win the CAF African Cup of Nations with a 5-4 victory over hosts at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
Olatomi Olaniyan put Nigeria ahead in the 20th minute, firing the ball past Abdallah Yahya in goal for Tanzania.
The hosts however hit back immediately through John Edmund who scored to put his side levelled.
The Manu Garba tutored Eaglets got their second of the game in the 30th minute courtesy of Wisdom Ubani’s fine finish, before Akinkunmi Amoo made it three for Nigeria eight minutes before the break.
The hosts however returned from the break looking more purposeful and their pressure paid off six minutes later as they reduced the deficit through Kelvin John.
The Serengeti Boys would levelled the scores seven minutes later , as Eaglets defender Suleman Shaibu putting the ball into his own net.
Oscar Milambo’s tutored side went ahead when Edmund converted a penalty on the hour mark to make it 4-3.
It was the turn of the Golden Eaglets to fight back and they did just that with Ubani getting his second of the game in the 72nd minutes from a superb free-kick .
Substitute Ibraheem Jabaar scored the winner for Nigeria 11 minutes left on the clock.
The Eaglets will face Angola in their next game on Wednesday at the National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
