Former Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr has taken a slight dig at the current technical crew of the team following Nigeria’s failure to pick a ticket for the World Cup in Qatar describing it as a “disappointment”.

Rohr was booted out of the job by the NFF with only a few weeks to the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, the German had been in charge for five years.
His sack was a messy affair and was termed a necessity at the time by FA President Amaju Pinnick.
However, there’s been very little progress in the team following the confirmation of Austin Eguavoen as interim Coach and Tuesday’s World Cup heartbreak was the peak.
Speaking exclusively to FL, Rohr said Nigeria should be beating a team like Ghana, owing to the quality in the side, but admits the Black Stars showed spirit and worked better a team.
“Oh yes there was a big disappointment after this match yesterday (Tuesday),” Rohr said in the interview.
“We had all the hope that Nigeria would qualify and I believe that the better players are in Nigeria not in Ghana. But sometimes the collective work of a team can be stronger than the individual strength of the other team.”
In his five years as Super Eagles Coach the German finished third at the 2019 AFCON and guided Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup.
He revealed his objective included off the pitch management of the team’s image while his immediate target was to qualify for the World Cup and believed he could have reached the quarter-final.
“My target was to go to the World Cup in Qatar and to go at least to the quarter final and also to have a good image of Nigerian football like we had in the last five years,” he stated.
