Disappointing Trip to Nijmegen for Bassey and Ajax

Ajax were dealt a blow in their bid to wrestle top spot off Feyenoord, as the Amsterdam side were held to a 1-1 draw away to Nijmegen FC at Goffertstadion.

Defender Calvin Bassey was in action for 90 minutes, starting at left back but was unable to stop Nijmegen from getting the equalizer after Davy Klaassen put them ahead in the first half.

It was a game to forget in attack for Ajax as they dominated proceedings but where just unable to find the cutting edge in the final third.

Nijmegen took the initiative and got the equalizer in the second half courtesy of Landry Dimata.

Credit must go to a resolute Nijmegen side, who were solid in defense as they held on for for over 40 minutes in the face of a barrage of attack by Ajax.

Former Ajax goalie Jasper Cillessen was also pivotal in keeping out his former club, making six saves from the seven shots he faced.

Bassey gave a decent account of himself, although there was nothing he could have done for that equalizer.
