Did Rivers United Purposely Avoid North African Foes in Confederation Cup Quarter-final draw?

On Wednesday, Rivers United will find out the quarter-final Opponent as the CAF Confederation Cup enters the knockout phase.

Rivers United finished as runners up in group B, picking 10points in the process, only bettered by ASEC Mimosas who lost only one game to finish with 13points.

Coming off second in the group means the Nigerian Champions will face any of the winners from the other three groups, Marumo Gallants, Young Africans or 2005 champions ASFAR.

Potentially, the NPFL side may have dogged a bullet or purposely opt to go the easy route, where finishing top of Group B would have seen them paired against any of US Monastir, Pyramids or USM Alger.

The draw ceremony for the quarter final and semi final of the competition will hold Wednesday April 5, in Cairo.

Meanwhile, Rivers United will earn $350,000 for reaching the last Eight. Winner of the Confederation Cup will pocket $1.25 million.
