Cup upset for Bryan Idowu’s Khimki FC, Ejuke on the bench in CSKA Moscow win


Bryan Idowu was a substitute in the Russian Cup match between Khimki FC and FK Saransk, but suffered a third round elimination at the hands of the National League 2 side.

Khimki lost 7-6 on penalties, Idowu was one of the players who converted his kick from the spot.
The Nigerian left back was introduced in the second half, replacing Elmir Nabiullin in the second half with the score tied at 1-1.
Eventually, the encounter ended so and proceeded to penalties where the hosts were more clinical from the spots.
Krasno-chyornye are on a three game winless streak including back to back defeats in the Russian Premier League.
In another Cup game, CSKA Moscow beat Zenit-Izhevsk 4-0 at the Stadion Central’nyj Zenit on Thursday, but Chidera Ejuke played no part in the game.
Ejuke was an unused substitute, but watched as the team gained passage to the next round of the competition at the expense of the Russian National League 2 side.
The 12-time Cup winners raced into the lead as early as the 9th minute and scored two goals in each half.
Ilzat Akhmetov and Konstantin Kuchayev opened the scoring in the 9th and 24th minutes. In the second-half Bakhtiyar Zaynutdinov (76′) and Anton Zabolotny (90+1′) completed the routing.
