Real Betis defeated Villarreal 1-nil at the Estadio Benito Villamarin, to claim all three points at home in their LaLiga fixture on Sunday.
It was a contest that was delicately poised as Villarreal were just a point ahead of Real Betis and were still one of the unbeaten Laliga sides heading into this fixture.
But Real Betis, who also tasted their first defeat last weekend against Real Madrid, knew one or two things about party popping as a goal from Rodri decided the tie.
It was an uneventful evening for Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze, he was brought in for Jeremy Pino in the 54th minute, but six minutes after his introduction Betis got the goal.
The Nigerian’s best efforts and that of his teammates to get a reply was fruitless with Betis bagging all three points to move ahead of Villarreal to 3rd on the log.
