Chukwueze stars in seven-goal thriller for Yellow Submarines

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze was among the goals as Villarreal edged past Galatasaray 4-3 in a scintillating friendly thriller.

Quique Setién’s team knew they needed to do better after they lost to Turkish opposition Fenerbahce last time out, losing 2-1 despite taking the lead first.

It was equally another close encounter against Galatasaray, but, this time with a lot of goals as spectators got value for money and witnessed a festival of goals.

It took only 22 minutes to get things started for the yellow Submarines as Villarreal raced to a three-goal lead in 10 minutes.

Francis Coquelin sent in an unstoppable Curler from the edge of the box to give Villarreal the lead before Johan Mojica doubled the lead with a beautifully taken free-kick after five minutes.

Samuel Chukwueze also got in on the action as he showed great positioning and awareness to score his side’s third in the 32nd minute.

Galatasaray pulled one back ten minutes after through Bafetimbi Gomis, but 19-year-old Jorge Pascual scored with just a minute to the end of the first half to maintain the three-goal cushion.

The second half was all Galatasaray as the Turkish giants tried to stage a comeback in what would have had Quique Setién worried.

Albdullerim Bardakci put Galatasaray back within two in the 58th minute and searched for the all important next goal to make a comeback possible.

However, Villarreal held their own and only conceded a penalty minutes into stoppage time, one that Beran Demiroglu duly converted to at least make the scoreline respectable.
