Chelsea Sacks Thomas Tuchel

Chelsea FC has sacked German manager Thomas Tuchel after the UEFA Champions League matchday 1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb.

The Two-time Champions fell at the Stadion Maksimir at the hands of Zagreb with Mislav Orsic scoring the only goal of the night.

Chelsea spent heavily in the transfer summer, splashing a total of €260 million on new signings but have had an uncertain season – mustering 3 wins, 1 draw and 3 loses in 7 games.

An official statement was released, Wednesday, announcing the sack of the 47 year-old.

‘On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.

‘Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

‘As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

‘Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.’

Several names have come up as potential replacement for the German, among them Brighton manager Graham Potter, former Spurs and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino as well as Zinedine Zidane.
