The indomitable Lions led by Cameroon legend Rigobert Song will take on the Red Crosses of Switzerland today at the Al Janoub Stadium in Qatar for the opening game of group G.

It is set to be a very interesting encounter as Cameroon will be hoping to make it past the group stage since they last did it in 1990.

Cameroon will also be looking to score Africa’s first goal as Senegal, Tunisia and Morocco have failed to find the back of the next so far.

Since seeing off Algeria to qualify for the World cup and the AFCON qualifiers win over Burundi, Cameroon did not won any of the four preparatory matches.

They lost to Uzbekistan and South Korea before being held to draws by Jamaica and Panama. Rigobert Song’s men will however be encouraged by the fact that Switzerland lost their last international friendly game against Ghana.

Cameroon will need their leaders to step up if they are to get something out of this encounter and they are not short on players of real quality.

The indomitable Lions boast of Andre Onana, Choupo Moting, Karl Toko Ekambi and the evergreen Vincent Aboubakar in their ranks.

In Rigobert Song they have a manager with enough World Cup experience, as the former Cameroon CB has represented the Indomitable Lions at four finals.

Switzerland are the bookies favourite and the Red Crosses have the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Breel Embolo, Granit Xhaka, Manuel Akanji and Newcastle’s defender Fabian Schar on their books and will hope their quality comes to the fore.

Teams have struggled to cope with the Physical approach of the African sides so far and Cameroon is set to be the most physical of all the teams representing the continent.
