The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been postponed from June 2023 until January 2024.

A CAF Executive Committee meeting held, Sunday, in Morocco ruled for the postponement of next year’s AFCON.
The major reason for the rescheduling is due to the unfavorable weather condition during that time of the year.

Ivory Coast are due to host the tournament and summer in that region of the continent experiences heavy rainfalls.
However, the West African country will retain the rights to host the tournament, but preparation for the Continental showpiece will be pushed back.
The last edition of the AFCON which held in Cameroon was moved twice due to the outbreak of the COVID pandemic and weather conditions in the Central African country.
It eventually held in January this year 2022, where Senegal beat Egypt on penalties to win their first ever AFCON title.
