The Nigerian Champions secured maximum points in the 1-0 victory in Congo to make it back to back wins in the group after their opening day defeat to Diables Noir.
Despite going a man down, Rivers United saw the game out to go top of group B with six points capitalizing on ASEC Mimosas 2-0 victory over Diables Noirs.
LB Ebube Duru was on the wrong end of the referee’s books in this encounter and got sent off for a second booking in the 42nd minute to make the task difficult.
However his teammates rose to the occasion and covered his blushes, Ghanaian star Paul Acquah got the only goal of the encounter in the 53rd minute.
