Although Bafana Bafana have been eliminated from the AFCON 2019, South Africa will have some presence in the final of the competition after all.

This is made possible following the appointment of South African referee Victor Gomes as center Referee for the AFCON 2019 final between Senegal and Algeria.

The 36 year-old, who debuted on the international scene eight years ago, recently served as fourth official in Nigeria’s AFCON 2019 semi-final defeat to Algeria.

Gomes had previously officiated two matches in the competition, including Tunisia’s quarter-final win over Ghana.

In the two games where he was center Referee, the South African issued 10 yellow cards (five in each game).

CAF’s announcement of Gomes’ appointment was shared on its official twitter handle on Tuesday.
