Burkina Faso defeated Cameroon 2-0 to set up a quarter final clash against Nigeria at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, and it will be a repeat of the 2022 WAFU-B tournament finals.

In the winner’s take-all clash against Cameroon, Burkina Faso had to come from behind, beautifully, to snatch all three points and ultimately seal qualification to the last eight.

Both teams had earlier lost to Mali and needed a victory to guarantee their qualification as the expulsion of Sudan from the tournament meant that there were only three teams in group C.

After a goalless 60 minutes, things began to heat up as Cameroon opened the scoring through Matah Yondijo to grab the advantage, but Burkina Faso responded with a quick double, as Souleymane Alio scored two goals in three minutes to seal the win for the Stallions.

The win sets up an intriguing contest Nigeria and Burkina Faso, a replay of their meeting when both teams met at the WAFU-B tournament in Ghana.

Nigeria came out on top, 2-1, thanks to a brace from Abubakar Abdullahi, and so Burkina Faso will be looking out to right the wrongs of that encounter.

Coach Nduka Ugbade will have to treat this as one of the many finals his team will have to play to be successful on the continent and on the world stage, let’s not forget the winner gets a ticket to the FIFA U17 World Cup.
