Lokomotiv Moscow remain in contention for a place in European football next season, but they were hammered 4-0 by Arsenal Tula on Friday.

Nigeria international Bryan Idowu watched, helplessly, from the bench as his side suffer their biggest defeat in 2019.

After a barren first half, it was the host who turned up after the break with more hunger and three minutes in they broke the deadlock through Igor Gorbatenko.

Evgeni Lutsenko doubled for the hosts (63′) and added a third fifteen minutes later, but only after Lokomotiv’s Maciej Rybus was sent off for a second booking.

The final nail on the coffin was Goran Causic’s 83rd minute strike to secure all three points.

Idowu has only made seven appearances in the league this season, but had been left on the bench seven times in the last ten games in all competitions.

Friday’s defeat leaves Lokomotiv Moscow in fourth position and 11 points behind leaders Zenit, but just one behind second placed Krasnodar.
