Bonke returns but Malmo are stunned at home

Innocent Bonke returned to action with Malmo FF after a brief night in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round win against Rangers at Ibrox Stadium.

Bonke was booked twice in four minutes and was sent in for an early bath in the first half. However, Malmo’s resilience paid off and the fought from a goal down, with a man-less to knock out the Scottish champions from the competition.
However, they could not repeat that feat in the Allsvenskan, despite taking an early lead against visitors IFK Gothenborg at the weekend.
Antonio-Mirko Colak’s opening goal was cancelled out 10 minutes later by Marcus Berg as the teams went in to the break level.
After the restart, Änglarna took the lead and quite fortuitously after Eric Larsson turned the ball into his own net.
But in the 86th minute after Malik Abubakari levelled for Malmo, it had looked liek the teams will settle for a share of the spoils but it was not to be.
A sending off for Malmo in additional time forced the game late into the ninth minute and there was more drama.
The Referee awarded a late penalty, Tobias Sana stepped forward and converted to hand Gothenborg their first win against Malmo in all competitions and in regular time since 2018.
Defeat for the Sky Blue saw them fall three points behind league leaders Djurgarden.
