Bonke, Moffi return to defeat in Ligue 1 as Lorient fall

A disastrous opening opening thirty minutes all but decided Thursday’s Ligue 1 match between FC Lorient and Montpellier.

Teji Savanier (3′) and Elye Wahi (22′) gave Montpellier the lead in a performance that underpins the inconsistency of Lorient even before the World Cup break.

The signs of an imminent collapse of their European ambitions resurfaced and in the bid to salvage what was left of their pride, Les Merlus coach Regis Le Bris effected two first half changes in the midfield =.

Julien Ponceau and Stephane Diarra were both replaced by Ibrahima Kone and Innocent Bonke respectively.

Although it provided the stability the midfield require, on the other end, the Stade du Moustoir landlords suffered to breach the stoic defence line.

Terem Moffi had scored 10 goals before the break, including goals in back to back games before the World Cup break.

However, despite his best efforts; four shots on goal, Moffi couldn’t add to his tally.

He contributed more in the defensive transition with 1 iterception, 2 blocks and 1 clearance.

But, defeat in the round of 16 games stretches Lorient’s winless run to six games in a period where they’ve only managed four points.

They drop to seventh on the standings, with two points between them and Monaco who hold the last European spot on the table.
