Big win! Osayi-Samuel Cruises into Turkish Cup QF with Fenerbahce


Fenerbahce booked a quarter-final spot in the Turkish Cup, beating Istanbulspor AS 3-1 at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Tuesday.

The team along side Sivasspor, Trabzonspor, Konyaspor and Basaksehir FK all entered the competition in the fifth round.

A first half 2-0 lead courtesy goals from Joshua King (31′) and Michy Batshuayi (34′) set Fenerbahce on their way to a comfortable round of 16 win.

Batshuayi got his second in the 54th minute and it was assisted by King; his second assist in the game for the Belgian.

Meanwhile, in spite of the transfer speculation surrounding Nigerian RB, Bright Osayi-Samuel, the player was handed a starter’s place in the Cup match.

Osayi-Samuel joined Fenerbahce from QPR last January and has seen his stock rise steadily.

Although the 24 year-old still has three years on his contract, he’s performances have caught the eyes of Several clubs including in Spain and France, while a return to England is also quite feasible.

On Tuesday, the Nigeria International started in his favorite RB position and was solid all through.

He saw Eighty-five minutes of action before he was substituted for Miha Zajc. However, the Osayi-Bright’s exit also coincided with Fenerbahce allowing a goal in stoppage time.

The visitors got a consolation through Kosovo forward, Jetmir Topalli for his second Cup goal this season in as many matches. They also had a Nigerian, 19 year-old Defender, Micahel Ologo Inainfe who was an unused substitute.

Up next for the Yellow Canaries is an away game against League holders Trabzonspor on Saturday.

In another cup game, Basaksehir beat Goztepe 3-1, but Azubuike Okechukwu was on the bench for the entire duration of the game.
