Big pay day for Rivers United and co as CAF announce Interclub draws and Prize Money

The path for Nigerian teams into this season’s CAF Interclub campaigns have been set, with all four representatives handed some very tricky draws.

On Tuesday, the Continent’s governing body, CAF, announced the draw results for its flagship continent wide Interclub competition.
Since the ratification of the Super League, the Champions League and second tier competition, Confederation Cup, have somewhat become lesser in status.
With Nigeria still ranked among the 12 highest national associations in the latest Interclub competitions, it will present four teams – two each in both the CAF CL & CC – along with 11 other leagues.
NPFL champions Rivers United face Watanga FC (Liberia), while Plateau United battle ASO Stade Mandji (Gabon) in the first preliminary round.
In the preliminary round for the Confederation Cup, Kwara United hosts AS Douanes (Niger) in the first-leg and Remo Stars will make a trip to Morocco to face ASFAR (Morocco) in the same stage.
The first legs of both competitions will be played between September 9-11 and the second legs are scheduled to be between September 16-18.
In addition to the draws, CAF also announced, Wednesday, that the winners of the Champions League and Confederation Cup will now earn $17.6 million and $9.9 million respectively.
