The Interim Management Committee of the NPFL has docked newly promoted Bayelsa United three points and three goals for violating the NPFL rules during their 1-1 draw against Doma United on Wednesday in Yenagoa.

Bayelsa United was penalized for failing to give match officials enough protection before and after the game.

They were also charged for failing to prevent unauthorized people from entering restricted areas, according to a statement signed by the league’s Head of Operations, Davison Owumi.

As part of the punitive measures, the club has also been fined 1.75 Million Naira for three other offenses, and they have now been asked to play at home behind closed doors.

“You are in breach of Rule B8.21 of the Framework and Rules of the Nigeria Premier Football League, in that, Wednesday 1st of February, 2023, in the course of match Day 5 Fixture: Bayelsa United vs. Doma United, you failed to provide adequate security for the match officials before, during and after a match; which resulted in the assault of the match official,” read the statement.
