Bayelsa United has challenged the Interim Management Committee’s (IMC) decision to penalize the team by deducting three points and three goals for allegedly assaulting an assistant referee on February 1, 2023 at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

In contrast to the claim made against Bayelsa United on matchday five in the NPFL match against Doma United FC, that the home team gave money to the State FA to ensure that security was present and that other related logistics were in place, the club appealled for non violations of Rule B8:21, C11, and B13:52.

According to a preliminary report by the Nigeria Police Force, who were on the scene, a hoodlum who tricked his way into the neighborhood by posing as a local help or guide for visiting teams was the attacker of the match official, Assistant Referee 2 Ojeleye Ebenezer.

It was reported that the State FA had provided 35 policemen to secure the stadium which was higher than the thirty personnel both clubs had earlier agreed upon during their prematch meeting.
