Nigerian youngster Samuel Chukwueze was in action for 90 minutes as Villarreal fell to a 2-1 defeat against Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Tuesday.
Chukwueze returned to the starting eleven of the Yellow Submarine side after he came off the bench in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Real Valladolid.
The 20-year-old was on for the entire duration of the game at Camp Nou, but couldn’t save his side from defeat to a below par Barcelona side, who are fighting their way back from a shocking defeat to Granada last weekend.
Antoine Griezmann and Arthur Melo gave a Barcelona 2-0 lead 26 minutes into the first half, before former Arsenal’s Captain, Santiago Cazorla reduced the deficit, a minute before the half time whistle.
However, both side failed to add to their tally in the second half, as Barcelona held on for a nervy win.
Chukwueze, who has scored once and recorded one assist in five league appearances for the Yellow Submarines this season, has also emerged a candidate for the 2019 European Golden Boy award.
The award which is put together by Italian newspaper, Tuttosport, acknowledges the continent’s best U21 players during the calendar year.
