Azubuike Okechukwu gutted over narrow loss to Victor Moses’ Fenerbahce in Turkey

Nigerian midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu has revealed that he is still in shocked and disappointed over his team’s 3 – 2 away loss at Fenerbahce’s in a Turkish Super Lig match on Saturday.

 

Azubuike was in the Rizespor’s starting line up alongside fellow Nigerian counterparts Chidozie Awaziem and Aminu Umar but it was another Nigerian Victor Moses in the colors of Fenerbahce that broke his heart scoring an 84th-minute penalty which game his team the maximum points.

 

The visitors took the lead as early as the 4th minute through Dario Melnjak while Sedar Aziz equalized for the home side in the 22nd minute. Fenerbahce ensured they went into the break with the lead courtesy of Roberto Soldado in the 40th minute before Dario Melnjak scored his second in the 55th minute.

Reacting to the loss on his social media handle, the 2014 Olympic bronze medallist said; “Gutted about last nights game, we keep fighting for Rizespor. Great character by the lads also.”

With the loss, Rizespor sits 13th on the league table on 28 points same as Fenerbahce but with a superior goal difference. Azubuike was substituted off the match in the 85th minute for Musa Cagiran while his compatriot Aminu Umar made way for Braian Samudio in the 73rdminute.
